Marriott rolls out Rewards across Protea portfolio

Marriott Rewards are now available at all Protea and African Pride hotels across sub-Saharan Africa, providing loyalty members with a wider variety of redemption options.
The global loyalty programme was initially implemented across 26 properties in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban and has now been extended across the portfolio.
Protea’s Prokard programme will remain in place, explains Mark Satterfield, ceo of Marriott International, Middle East & Africa and Marriott’s International business leader for Protea Hotels.  Prokard members will now have the choice of earning Marriott Rewards or Prokard Rewards. However, existing Prokard points must be used at Protea Hotels, he clarifies.
The new development has a number of advantages for Rewards members according to Satterfield, the most significant of which is the ability to earn points at local Protea properties which can then be redeemed internationally. “Many Prokard members use their points for leisure stays, which can now be spent overseas.” These points can also be used for a range of other benefits, such as air travel, car rental and cruises.
“The inclusion of our Protea portfolio in Marriott Rewards also creates a significant opportunity for us to promote Africa to our existing client base,” says Mark. “It will be a boost for the continent as a whole.”
