Mexico doubles cruise pax tax

Mexico doubled its cruise passenger tax this month, requiring travellers arriving in the country via cruise ship to pay US$10 (R162), up from the previous $5 (R80).

The fee is expected to increase in phases over the next two years, reaching $15 (R243) in 2027 and $21 (R340) by 2028.

The charge applies to popular destinations like Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel and Costa Maya and is being collected by the cruise lines.
