A rescued endangered female Black rhino at the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has given birth to a calf, fathered by another survivor of poaching. Both animals were orphaned by poachers. It is the first Black rhino born to two rehabilitated orphans of poaching.

The birth marks the sanctuary's 18th calf.

In 2017, Care for Wild rescued the orphaned Black rhino Phoebe after her mother was killed, and brought her to the sanctuary for extensive rehabilitation. In 2018, she was joined by the poaching orphan, Ratu.

After their rehabilitation, the pair completed a complicated rewilding and reintroduction programme.
