A new South African film has come to Netflix, produced by local award-winning animation company Triggerfish. Seal Team, available for streaming now, revolves around a seal named Quinn who lives off the coast of Cape Town.
The cast includes Oscar winner J K Simmons, Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, Emmy nominee Kristen Schaal, four-time Annie Awards nominee Patrick Warburton, and a couple of local stars: Sharlto Copley from District 9 and John Kani, who played Rafiki in The Lion King.
Seal Team is the feature film debut of South African writer-director Greig Cameron, based on a story by Wayne Thornley (Adventures in Zambezia) and Brian and Jason Cleveland.
Cameron describes Seal Team as “a love letter to the silly, over-the-top 80s and 90s action movies that I really wanted to watch when I was a kid but had to sneak into”.
