At an aviation briefing held this morning (June 29), Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula announced the opening of more airports for domestic flights only.

In addition to the four Phase 1-approved airports, the following airports will reopen from July 1:

Bram Fischer International Airport (Bloemfontein); Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport; Pietermaritzburg Airport; Port Elizabeth International Airport; Richard’s Bay Airport; Skukuza Airport; and Upington International Airport. According to the Minister, George and East London airports are not yet ready to open.

“We are pleased with the progress we have observed to date and other airports will open once all the necessary measures are intact in those areas,” he said.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority has reviewed its earlier decision of ‘no catering’ on board aircraft and will now permit airlines to provide pre-packed meals to be placed at the passenger’s seat before they board.
