Mount Sinabung causes flight cancellations

Indonesian officials have raised the alert for the Mount Sinabung volcano in North Sumatra to the highest level where the ash has caused flight cancellations and delays at Kuala Namu International Airport.
The volcano, which was dormant for three years, shot ash and rocks far into the air over the weekend, prompting the alert. More eruptions are expected.
According to The Jakarta Post, Susi Air has halted all operations from Kuala Namu International Airport until further notice. AirAsia has also announced delayed departures and postponed a flight to Penang, Malaysia.
Susi Air operational manager, Hadi Zulfadi, is quoted as saying it would resume operations to Simeule, Singkil in Aceh and Aek Godan in Padang Sidempuan regency as well as flights between Banda Aceh and Kutacane when the situation was safe again.
Last week the Transport Ministry in Indonesia issued flight warnings, encouraging airlines not to use routes near the mountain.
