MSC Cruises reveals AI on ship

MSC Cruises new flagship, MSC Bellissima, will feature its new digital cruise personal assistant, as part the cruise company’s digital innovation programme, ‘MSC for Me’.

The MSC Bellissima is currently under construction with its christening confirmed for March 2, 2019, at the port of Southampton, UK. She will spend her inaugural season in the western Mediterranean before heading to the United Arab Emirates, calling on Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas, Muscat, and Khasab.

Developed in partnership with Harman International (a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics) the virtual personal assistant is a voice-enabled Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can communicate, learn, and predict guests’ needs in order to make relevant suggestions.

“Digital Assistants and voice recognition technologies are transforming the way we communicate and get our work done today,” said Sanjay Dhawan, president, Harman Connected Services and Harman chief technology officer. “Imagine getting instant and personalised information like cruise events, entertainment options, journey updates, or just playing your favourite music by a simple voice command. Harman is excited to bring this innovation to MSC Cruises.”

Guests will be able to communicate with the new digital personal assistant in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Brazilian Portuguese and Mandarin. The personal assistant will initially launch on MSC Bellissima, but plans are in place to introduce the feature on the rest of the fleet soon.

MSC Bellissima will also have two new theatre shows from Cirque du Soleil at Sea; an 80-metre LED Sky Screen, the longest at sea; two new dining concepts – L’Atelier Bistrot, and street food inspired by Market Street; and the MSC Cruise family offering with a Grand Canyon theme for the Aquapark, the DOREMI Studio Lounge, a dedicated lounge for all family activities, the DOREMI Tech Lab, as well as facilities designed by Lego and Chicco.
