The National Auronautic and Space Administration of the US, NASA, has announced plans to design and build a supersonic passenger aircraft which will fly twice as fast as the Concorde.
According to dailymail.com, this will allow commercial passengers to travel from New York to London in about 90 minutes.
The space agency said that its preliminary research has shown that the aircraft will fly across the Atlantic at speeds between roughly 2 470 and 4900 kilometres per hour.
“NASA is just at the early, exploratory stages of research, and is not developing such aircraft” NASA Spokesperson, Rob Margetta, told the Daily Mail.
The space agency has already completed testing for its Lockheed Martin X-59 “Quiet Supersonic Aircraft (QueSST), designed to muffle its own sonic boom, which will act as the prototype for the new supersonic passenger jet programme.
