New national park for Mozambique

A new national park in Mozambique’s Tete province is good news for the development of tourism infrastructure and wildlife rehabilitation in the country.
The 350 000ha Magoe Park on the southern banks of the Cahora Bassa Dam was declared a national game park last month, Business Day reported. The park is expected to boost wildlife and tourism in the area.
"Tourism is non-existent around this lake - it should be big," safari operator Simon Rodger was quoted as saying. He added that the park would offer protection against mining in the area.
Barbara Kühn, gm Mozambique Voyages, told eTNW the new park would boost tourism infrastructure and wildlife rehabilitation while also providing work for people in the area.
“Tete is not really a mainstream tourist destination at the moment. The majority of the travellers going to Tete travel for the mining industry,” says Barbara. “We are hopeful that the new park will provide a safe refuge for the wildlife in that area and also open up new wildlife destinations in the country.”
