New York trials electric air taxis

Joby Aviation completed tests for its first electric air taxi flights in New York last week, using its piloted eVTOL aircraft to connect JFK International Airport with heliports across Manhattan.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said test flights had operated between JFK and several sites across its existing heliport network. Heliports will be fitted with recharging infrastructure ahead of the commercial launch.

The service aims to turn a 60- to 120-minute drive to JFK into a seven-minute flight. Joby is working through the final stages of FAA certification, which is expected later in the year.
