Nigeria revives COVID vax condition

26 Jan 2023

The Nigerian Federal Government announced during a media briefing at the Ministry of Health in Abuja on Monday, January 2, that all international arrivals to the country once again had to produce proof of COVID vaccination.

In December 2022, the government had relaxed its COVID-related entry regulations for the country. PCR test requirements for travellers who were not fully vaccinated and the requirement to upload evidence of vaccination on the Nigeria International Travel Portal were suspended.

According to Director of Port Health Services, Geoffrey Okatubo, surveillance has now been heightened at Nigeria’s points of entry following the recent surge in COVID cases in countries such as China, Japan, and the United States.

“Following the reported upsurge of COVID in China, Japan, the US, and other countries, Port Health Services has continued to heighten surveillance at our points of entry.

“The Port Health Services has resumed checks of passengers’ vaccination status, and will provide traffic data on inbound passengers from all over the world,” said Okatubo.

Unvaccinated travellers arriving from other countries may be required to receive a vaccination upon arrival at the airport, reports Naija News.
