SAA launched its new direct service between Johannesburg and Beijing in the early hours of this morning (January 31).

SAA ceo Siza Mzimela said at a function in Johannesburg last night that the Johannesburg Beijing route will also contribute significantly in establishing South Africa as an aviation hub between South America and China, linking three of the five BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

To begin with, SAA will operate three flights a week using an Airbus A340-600. The 15 hour flight will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in both directions.
