The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has dropped its lawsuit to block the merger between American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) and Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT).
According to Reuters, the notice was entered into court record in New York on July 28.
"We're excited to close the transaction and welcome them to Amex GBT. Together, we will offer customers unrivalled choice, value and experience,” said Amex GBT CEO, Paul Abbott.
Amex GBT expects the merger to be finalised in the third quarter.
Under Biden’s administration, the DoJ filed the lawsuit to block the merger, claiming that the combination of the county’s largest and third-largest corporate travel management companies would discourage competition in the market, as reported by Travel News.
However, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority granted Amex GBT provisional approval for its merger with CWT in January.
