Operator takes 'road to Okahandja'

TOUR operators to Southern Africa have the opportunity to expose their clients to an integral part of Namibia's cultural history as its indigenous Herero people undertake their annual pilgrimage to the northern region of Okahandja. There, amongst other places, the Herero visit the graves of three of their chiefs - Herero Tjamuaha (d 1859), Maharero (d 1890) and Samuel Maharero (d 1923) - on August 26 and 27.
Namibian-based Face to Face Tours of Katutura is offering a tour to witness the pilgrimage, which will incorporate a visit to the ancestors' grave-site and a cultural performance by the Herero people.
"We provide indigenous guides who have an in-depth understanding of the event," says operator, Abuid Karongee.
