Austian train operator, ÖBB, has announced that its night train service, Nightjet, linking Berin and Paris, will return in December, after a nine-year absence.

This falls in line with low-carbon emission travel options having become popular throughout Europe, according to guardian.com.

“The service will start on December 11 from Berlin with three trips per week before becoming a daily service in October 2024,” said an ÖBB spokesperson.

The trains will have stops in Strasbourg, Mannheim, Erfurt and Halle.

Due to ÖBB’s Brussels-Vienna and Paris-Vienne services also making stops in Mannheim, the city will become a hub for night trains.

Passengers travelling from Brussels and Paris to Berlin and Vienna will board different carriages on the same train and the carriages will be redistributed in Mannheim to allow passenger to travel to their destinations.

The service is expected to depart from Paris at 19h12 and arrive in Berlin at 08h26. The return trip will depart from Berlin at 20h18 and arrive in Paris at 10h24.

ÖBB has also extended its route between Vienna/Munich and Milan to reach Genoa and La Spezia in Italy. It has promised further connections to Austria, Germany and Italy in 2024, reports euronews.com.

France and Germany are planning to introduce a fast train service between the two capitals by the end of 2024. The new direct service will allow passengers to make the journey in seven hours.
