PRICE increases for the Botswana National Parks can be expected to take effect on April 1 this year, subject to approval by the Botswana Government.
Wildlife and National Parks Botswana Director, Sedi Modise, told Travel Now that he hopes to make the announcement soon regarding the increase in fees.
He could not comment on what the increase would be at this stage.
According to him, the fee of 50 Pula has remained the same since 1988, but due to the depreciation of the pula to the US dollar (currently at four Pula to one dollar), fees now urgently need to be increased.
"In 1988, P50 represented US$25, now the same amount represents approximately US$10 to 12."
Despite the looming price increase, Botswana's national parks remain a big tourism drawcard, with a number of the camps fully booked for the next four months.
