Electric air taxi developer Archer Aviation has announced plans to launch an air taxi network in New York City, in partnership with United Airlines.

The proposed service would connect Manhattan with nearby airports via Archer’s Midnight aircraft, cutting travel times from up to two hours on the road to just 5-15 minutes in the air.

The fully electric Midnight aircraft, featuring 12 electric motors and propellers, is designed to carry four passengers and a pilot, while producing less noise and emissions than a traditional helicopter.

Archer’s concept includes building vertiports at existing aviation infrastructure such as city helipads and airports.

United Airlines, a long-standing investor in Archer, has committed to integrating the service with traditional air travel, streamlining door-to-door passenger journeys.

The NYC network follows similar announcements for San Francisco, Los Angeles and Ethiopia.
