SHORTLY after taking over the management and operations of the Karos/Movenpick's Kruger Gate Lodge in Mpumalanga on February 15, the hotel sustained extensive flood damage estimated at R15m and had to be closed. Reports are that it will remain closed until the end of June.
"It's not just the damage to the hotel, but a number of the access roads and bridges remain closed after they were severely damaged in the floods," says Allan Duke, Protea's marketing manager.
In Mozambique, Protea's Bazaruto Lodge will be closed until the end of April, following flood damage to the hotel, although Duke says the damage was not quite as severe and minor details such as the lifting and replacement of carpets need to be seen to.
"We still hope to meet our original deadline set for April 14, but for now we're still closed until the end of the month."
The Pestana/Premier Protea Hotel Ravuma in Maputo as well the Inhaca Island Hotel in Mozambique remain fully operational.
