Qantas is considering a combination of increases, including fuel surcharges, following a review of its base fares and fuel surcharges across its international and domestic network.
This follows the recent increases in the cost of fuel and the depreciation of the Australian dollar. Michi Messner, regional manager for Africa at Qantas, says: “Each market is reviewed independently and a combination of increases will be considered, depending on route and cabin to minimise the overall increases as best we can for our customers.”
Michi adds that a review is currently under way for all tickets issued in South Africa and Qantas expects to make an announcement mid-August. “Travel agents can be assured that we will communicate any changes in advance, allowing enough time to issue any un-ticketed bookings prior to the increase coming into effect,” she says.
Despite reports that the new pricing structure will bring the airline into line with Emirates, Michi says the review is unrelated to its Middle East partner.
