SA excluded from Sri Lankan VOAs

Sri Lanka will offer free visas on arrival (VOA) for over 30 countries, starting next month until September.

The six-month free visa period will be granted to nationals of the UK, the EU, the US, Australia, South Korea, Canada, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and New Zealand. It may be expanded to include China and other South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries such as Afghanistan, India and Nepal. The programme could be extended permanently, depending on the success of the six-month period.

As the next step of the programme, a permanent system will be set up at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo to issue VOAs.

According to the Sri Lankan Embassy in South Africa, there are no plans to extend this programme to South African nationals, who currently need visas to enter Sri Lanka.
