SA government 'comes to the party' at KNP

THE South African government grant of R50m, allocated specifically for reconstruction after the floods in the Kruger National Park (KNP) in February, was finally handed over to KNP on Saturday by Deputy Home Affairs Minister, Lindiswe Sisulu, who also serves on the Command Centre for Emergency Flood Relief and Reconstruction.
KNP director, David Mabunda, told Travel Now that reconstruction on phase three (of five) had begun and was confident that the reconstruction process would be completed by December.
"We are now more than halfway in the process, having rebuilt all the access bridges. Now phase three entails fixing the main roads, culverts and causeways as well as the 30 riverview huts at Skukuza and the Shimwini Bushcamp."
According to Mabunda, phase four will see heavy construction work on the four or five high-water bridges and phase five deals with building dams and erecting an alternative gate, the Albassine Gate, to the main Paul Kruger Gate in the southern part of the park.
Albassine Gate is located between Pretoriuskop and Paul Kruger Gate.
