South Africa will soon become the first country to have its graded properties’ official star ratings, as allocated by the Tourism Grading Council of SA, posted alongside the TripAdvisor ratings on the travel site, TripAdvisor announced at the E-Tourism Africa Summit, Cape Town. The TGCSA ratings will replace the current star ratings, drawn from various external sources.
According to Helena Egan, Head of Destination Marketing Sales: Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia, TripAdvisor, this forms part of a new, three-year partnership between TripAdvisor and SA Tourism - the first comprehensive partnership of its kind. SAT will be incorporating user-generated content from TripAdvisor on its website.
Egan encouraged tourism establishments to monitor what people say about them on TripAdvisor, be active and reply. “It’s free research.” Over 50 new contributions are posted every minute. On TripAdvisor, SA is mostly researched by South Africans, followed by users from the UK, USA and Germany.
