South Africa is the Telegraph Travel Awards’ ‘Best Country’ for 2023, according to 27 000 voters, snatching the title from long-standing favourite, New Zealand.
SA was rated tops due to its accessibility from the UK and US with direct flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town, as well as the fact that travellers from Europe experience minimal jetlag, reports theafricanmirror.africa.
Other advantages are the rich and diverse culture, as well as an abundance of natural wonders, including the Drakensberg Mountain range, Motlatse Canyon and Kruger National Park.
Not only was SA named the best country, but Cape Town, known as the ‘Mother City’, was awarded the ‘World’s Best City’ for travel. Botswana and Kenya also made it into the top ten countries list.
