SAA doubles down on Mauritius flights

Mauritius just keeps gaining in popularity and the availability of seats on flights in the high season is a big issue.

Agents will therefore welcome the excellent news that SAA will double its current daily flights from JNB to MRU, going double daily with a seasonal service from December 1.

The additional daily frequency, effective until March 29 next year, will be as follows:

  • Flight SA 0192 departs JNB at 10h45 and arrives in MRU at 16h45.
  • Flight SA 0193 departs MRU at 17h35 and arrives in JNB at 20h00.

The current daily schedule is as follows:

  • Flight SA 0190 departs JNB at 09h40 and arrives in MRU at 15h40.
  • Flight SA 0191 departs MRU at 16h30 and arrives in JNB at 18h55.

“The additional flights to Mauritius during peak periods reflect our commitment to meeting the increased demand for this popular destination,” SAA's GM Sales Marketing Distribution and E-Commerce, Carla da Silva, told Travel News.

“More flights to Mauritius mean greater flexibility and convenience for our passengers, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable travel experience. By increasing our frequency to the beautiful island, we're playing a key role in boosting tourism and supporting the local economy.”

Welcoming the news, Silvana Polo, Operations Manager of Beachcomber Tours, told Travel News. “We’ve noticed an increase in South Africans wanting to visit Mauritius over certain periods of the year, so this additional frequency over the peak holiday season will be a massive boost.”

Mladen Lukic, MD of Travel Counsellors South Africa, added: “Any frequency increase on a busy route is good news for our customers and subsequently our business. We’ve experienced issues with flight delays to Mauritius over the past year and, hopefully, this increased frequency will help with that.”
