Salary catastrophe continued in March

There was no ease-up in March of the dire position of people in the travel sector.

Most people in the retail travel industry were either unpaid last month or were paid less than 40% of their salary.

That is according to the third monthly salary survey conducted by Travel News among its readers.

An average of about 300 people have participated in the surveys – which were conducted at the end of each month – and answered the question: ‘In the last month, what percentage of your salary were you paid?’.

Fifty-one percent reported that they were paid nothing or less than 40% in March. This compares with 53% in February and 52% in January.

At the other end of the scale, only 12% reported getting their full salary, down from 13% in February and 14% in January.
