SA’s first indoor skypark opens at Wild Coast Sun

The Wild Coast Sun in Port Edward, KwaZulu Natal, has opened South Africa’s first indoor skypark – just in time for peak season.

The skypark, which up to 30 people can use at a time, is 18 metres high, has 21 rope obstacles on a skytrail and a built-in zipline skyrail.

The Magic Company, which operates the bowling alley, arcade games and kiddie rides, has invested R6,4m in the skypark.

Magic Company regional manager for Natal, Kim Sismey, said: “Used by some of the world’s top family entertainment centres and cruise lines, the skypark has world-class safety features.”

The company has also boosted employment in the area by hiring eight permanent and four casual staff to operate the skypark. Forty-five extra games have also been added in the area under the skypark.

Millions spent on upgrades

Over the past year, the resort has seen millions of rands spent on upgrades to existing and new facilities. This follows improvements that led to Wild Coast Sun being lifted from a three- to a four-star resort in 2020.

The resort has also opened two new franchised restaurants this year – Barcelos and Maltos.

The popular breakfast and private function restaurant, Chico’s – which overlooks the ocean – opens this month following a R5,5m make-over.

The Palms convenience shop has also opened, and Mangwanani Spa will undergo improvements next year.
