Secondary Cairo airport gets scheduled flights

The new Capital International Airport, serving the New Administrative Capital east of Cairo, welcomed its first scheduled services last week (February 1), with Air Cairo launching flights to Jeddah.

The route marks the airport’s first scheduled and first international flights. Air Cairo operates six weekly services between Capital International Airport and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation, the flights form part of the government’s strategy to better integrate the airport into the city’s air transport system while easing pressure on Cairo International Airport, particularly during peak travel periods.

Capital International Airport is 45km east of Cairo and serves as a gateway to the New Capital urban development. The airport saw its first commercial chartered operation in 2020.
