Stricter quarantine measures for pax entering HK

The Hong Kong Government has adjusted the 14-day mandatory home quarantine requirements for new arrivals (of any nationality) who have been to Mainland China.

To enhance surveillance, all persons under compulsory quarantine are now required to activate their real-time locations on their mobile phones at the boundary control points, otherwise they will be required to wear electronic wristbands. This will help authorities monitor whether they are staying indoors.

In addition, the government will contact people under quarantine to provide health information and members of the disciplinary forces will conduct regular spot checks.

If the persons under quarantine cannot be contacted, the police will consider issuing wanted warrants against them.

Anyone found to be in breach of their quarantine conditions or to have lied about their travel history could face punitive measures.

The maximum penalty is six-months’ imprisonment and a fine of HKD25 000 (R48 420).
