Swissport ground handling staff based at Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Stansted airports have threatened to strike in a dispute over pay, which could see operations affected.
Of the Swissport staff represented by Unite union, 94% of those balloted voted in favour of a strike. The massive ‘yes’ vote has prompted Swissport to request an urgent meeting with Unite, which will take place on October 16.
Unite national officer, Oliver Richardson, says they hope a deal can be reached in the following days. A date for the strike has not been set.
Swissport's clients at the different airports include Ryanair, Virgin, Emirates, Virgin and British Airways.
A spokesperson from Emirates says it is business as usual at this stage.
TNW is monitoring the situation and will update the story.
