Khartoum International Airport has been closed due to the current clashes between Sudanese soldiers and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group.

The armed encounter began on April 15, leading to the destruction of two parked aircraft, a Saudia Airbus A330-300 and a Boeing 737-800 operated by Ukraine’s SkyUp Airlines.

The RSF claimed control of key sites, including the presidential palace and the airport.

Closure of the Sudanese airspace has affected airlines operating in Africa. According to airspace-africa.com, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways and Saudi Airlines have had to reroute flights to African and South American countries.

Ethiopian Airlines had to reroute up to 38 routes in its network. According to egyptianstreets.com, EgyptAir announced on Tuesday, April 18 that it was suspending flights to and from Khartoum indefinitely.
