TAAG Angola Airlines will start flying from Luanda to China (the destination city has not yet been announced) by early 2024, with the aim of increasing co-operation with that country.
This week, Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, announced that the airline would resume flights to China, but not to Beijing.
The Angolan carrier operated two weekly flights between Luanda Quatro de Fevereiro Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport before the pandemic, but the route was not profitable. During the pandemic, it operated special flights between Luanda and Changsha Huanghua Airport.
According to simpleflying.com, the return of this route will make TAAG the fifth African carrier operating flights to China, following Air Tanzania, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and EgyptAir. This month, the four carriers have up to 195 flights to five airports in China – Guangzhou Baiyun, Beijing Capital, Shanghai Pudong, Chengdu Tianfu and Hangzhou Xiaoshan.
