Taiwan opens borders

Taiwan lifted all COVID-19 entry restrictions from Thursday, October 13, allowing tourists free access to the country after two and a half years of border controls.

Visitors no longer have to quarantine on entry or take PCR tests but do have to monitor their health for a week after arrival and obtain a negative rapid antigen test result the day they arrive.

If travellers want to go out during the monitoring week, they need a negative same-day test or a negative test from the previous day.

There are also no longer any restrictions on nationalities being allowed to enter the country.

Visitors who test positive for COVID-19 will still have to quarantine at a hotel or at home.

President Tsai Ing-wen said on her Facebook page: “It has finally come to the final moment of the pandemic. Now, we must make every effort to revive tourism, stimulate the economy and lead Taiwan’s economy to develop by leaps and bounds.”
