Toronto Pearson reduces airport charges

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has approved changes to airline rates and charges for 2013, resulting in an overall reduction in charges to airlines operating at Toronto Pearson. This is the sixth consecutive year that fees have been reduced or held steady at the airport. The projected average decrease to charges for airlines will be roughly 10%.

The new rates and charges structure is set on an asset-recovery basis and is reflective of the structure at other international airports. This new structure will allow airlines to budget more accurately, based on the airport assets that they use. The GTAA intends to hold the new rates steady for three years to allow the airlines to budget accurately for an extended period.

Key to the new structure is successful cost containment during 2012 and a projected increase in passenger traffic in 2013. Comparing year-on-year traffic to the end of September, Toronto Pearson has seen a 4,1% increase in passenger volume.
