India’s Palace on Wheels hosts first May itinerary
Indian Railways’ Palace on Wheels is hosting its first-ever May itinerary due to unprecedented demand for the luxury railway experience.
Over the past 45 years, the luxury train only hosted itineraries between September and April.
The once-off summer departure is scheduled from May 20 to 25, as a six-day circular journey that begins and ends at Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station.
The short-circuit itinerary includes stops in Durgapura, Jaipur; Sawai Madhopur, as a gateway to the Ranthambore National Park; Chittorgarh, home to the Chittor Fort; Rana Pratap Nagar and Udaipur, the ‘Venice of the East’; Jaisalmer, famous for its Thar desert; and Bikaner, known for its Junagarh Fort and Karni Mata Temple.
New Oslo-Berlin rail route
The national Norwegian railway company, Vy, has partnered with Danish DSB and German Deutsche Bahn to launch the first ever direct rail route between Oslo and Berlin.
The route is to launch in the northern summer of 2028, with direct stops in Gothenburg and Malmö, Sweden; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Hamburg, Germany.
Eventually, the route will expand to include stops in Moss, Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg and Halden, in Norway; Trollhättan, Halmstad, Helsingborg and Lund, in Sweden; and Copenhagen Airport, Copenhagen H Central Station, Odense, Kolding and Padborg, in Denmark.
The Oslo-Berlin route will become one of Europe's longest train routes, with a travel time of approximately 14 to 15 hours.
