Train travel round-up

New itineraries for Japan luxury sleeper

Japan’s Seven Stars in Kyushu luxury sleeper train has introduced three new itineraries that run between March and August this year.

The journeys focus on lesser-known destinations on Kyushu Island:

  • The three-night Takachiho Journey will run until the end of June, taking travellers to the towns of Yatsushiro, Miyazaki, Hakata and to Takachiho Gorge.
  • The three-night Unzen Journey will run between July and August, exploring Kumamoto, Aso, and Mojiko, amongst others.
  • The one-night Kuju Journey will run until August, taking travellers to Yufuin, Oita, Bungo-Taketa and other destinations.

High-speed train connects Lecce and Naples

Trenitalia, Italy's national rail operator, will launch a direct high-speed service between Lecce and Naples from July 1.

The new service will link the Apulia and Campania regions without requiring passengers to change trains. Services will stop at Lecce, Brindisi, Bari Centrale, Barletta, Foggia, Benevento and Napoli Afragola before arriving at Naples Central Station.

According to Trenitalia, the service will provide more direct connections between southern Italy and Naples and will connect Lecce to Naples in about five hours.
