UK storm eases, but flights still affected

While the UK Met Office predicts that severe weather conditions will have eased in the UK by Tuesday morning (October 29), flights will still be affected. Over 100 flights were cancelled at Heathrow Airport on Monday and airlines are making provisions for passengers who were booked on the affected flights.
British Airways reduced European and domestic flights at Heathrow, while long-haul flights operated normally. Passengers flying on BA have the option of rebooking or receiving a refund if the flights were cancelled. Passengers who were travelling on October 28 to or from Heathrow, Gatwick or London City Airport may change the date and time of the flight for another service departing between October 29 and November 11.
A statement from BA said: “We are doing everything we can to help customers whose flights have been disrupted by severe weather and we fully apologise for the inconvenience caused to their travel plans. Like other airlines at Heathrow we have complied with a request to reduce our schedule across Monday and we continue to work with Heathrow Airport to help keep the airport running as smoothly as possible. We are keeping our schedule under constant review during the poor weather and will adjust it further if we need to.”

Lufthansa has also released a statement explaining that flights to and from the UK might be delayed following the storm. Passengers who have provided contact details will be informed about changes of their flight schedule via text message or email as far as possible. Flight statuses for Lufthansa can also be checked here.
Following the cancellation of some Virgin Atlantic Little Red domestic flights as well as one long-haul flight on Monday, there could be delays. Virgin is urging travellers to check flight statuses. There are a variety of rebooking and refund options for those on affected flights.
Heathrow has been keeping the public up to date with affected operations on Twitter and online. Travellers using Heathrow have been urged to check their flight statuses with airlines. A list of all airlines operating at Heathrow and their flight statuses can be found at: http://www.heathrowairport.com/help/contact-us/airline-contacts
Gatwick Airport has also advised passengers to check their flight status, however airline operations were not as affected as those at Heathrow. Flight statuses at Gatwick can be found on: www.gatwickairport.com
