The UK port town of Hull in East Yorkshire is restoring a historic trawler to offer tours, as part of a larger project to renew Hull’s historic maritime tourism offerings.
The Hull Maritime Project has so far included the refurbishment of the Hull Maritime Museum, the restoration of the local attraction Queens Gardens and the development of a historic trail through the town with additional signboards and public spaces.
The trawler, known as the Arctic Corsair, is one of the last aspects of the project. The Hull Maritime Foundation, which looks after the vessel, has received a £20 000 (R482 000) grant from The Seafarers' Charity to help with the recruitment of tour guides with seafaring experience to take tourists on guided tours upon the completion of the trawler’s restoration.
