The US government has announced that it will waive visa bonds for FIFA World Cup ticket holders.
The US State Department said it would waive visa bonds for eligible World Cup fans who purchased FIFA tickets and registered through the FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System (FIFA PASS) by April 15, 2026.
Five visa bond countries qualified for the World Cup – Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Tunisia.
The visa bond requires nationals from 50 countries to pay bonds of between US$5 000 (R83 355) and US$15 000 (R250 070) to obtain a tourist visa. Effective April 2, the visa bond list expanded to include countries such as Mozambique, Lesotho, Mauritius, Seychelles and Ethiopia, alongside Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Angola.
