Who judges on time performance?

29 Jan 2020

Many airlines claim they’re

the most punctual, but who

is the authority in the matter

of on-time performance?

Numerous data collection

agencies compile and

publish rankings for the

world’s most on-time airline

but FlySafair’s Kirby Gordon,

puts most trust OAG’s annual

report.

 “Everywhere I look for

OTP stats, it seems to come

full-circle back to OAG. OAG

includes/considers data from

a lot more airlines across the

world in comparison to other

data collection agencies.”

Another reason why OAG

is considered more highly,

is due to its commitment

to accurate data collection.

The company will directly

contact specific airlines if

certain data is missing from

submission, which was once

the case for FlySafair.

“During one of its reporting

cycles, OAG ended up

without complete data for all

our departures during that

period and contacted us for

help on establishing a more

reliable data link.

It was at this stage that

we learned just how exacting

they are about

the accuracy of the data that

they consume,” says Kirby.

FlySafair is South Africa’s

best performing airline

when it comes to OTP,

achieving a 91,6% on Acsa’s

website.
