AA goes multi-modal

American Airlines passengers wanting to travel from Philadelphia International Airport to Lehigh International Airport in Allentown, Pennsylvania or Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey, will find themselves travelling that leg of their journey on buses from June 3.

The Landline buses are to be painted in the American livery. They will collect passengers at Lehigh International Airport in Allentown or Atlantic City International Airport and transport them to Philadelphia, which is a major hub for American’s international connections.

Passengers will park at the airport in Allentown or Atlantic City, check in, check their luggage in and go through security before boarding the 35-seat bus which will take them to Philadelphia. From the bus, they will proceed straight into the terminal as if they were transferring normally at an airport.

The road transport provider, Landline, and American Airlines are pitching the bus service as an easier way to travel between the Philadelphia airport and the Allentown airport, 117km away, and between Philadelphia and the Atlantic City airport, 90km away. Brian Znotins, American’s VP Network Planning, said it would help customers connect to the airline’s international flights from Philadelphia.

Landline has similar deals with United Airlines in Denver and Sun Country Airlines in seven cities in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
