The latest StatsSA Tourism and Migration report shows that 167 578 South African residents departed on foreign trips from SA airports in June.
This shows a strong increase – over 100% – in travel from January this year when
81 850 South African residents departed the country by air.
When compared with the June 2019 figure of 261 872 departures, travel in June 2022 had recovered to 64% of pre pandemic numbers.
June 2020 saw 7 546 South Africans departing, and June 2021, 38 666.
SA resident departure figures are reported for all the airports in the country – OR Tambo, Cape Town, King Shaka and ‘others’.
