From August 1, the US will close its visa processing operations in Botswana. All non-immigrant and immigrant visa services for Botswana nationals and residents will be processed by the US Consulate General in Johannesburg.
According to Botswana’s Ministry of International Relations, visa applications will continue to commence online, with subsequent processing undertaken in Johannesburg.
“The Government of Botswana notes the increasingly stringent visa regime of the US, which has made travel more difficult for Batswana. We continue to engage the US Government on these matters, including the visa bond programme introduced in August 2025. It is important to acknowledge that defaults on visa conditions and rising numbers of asylum claims by Batswana in the US have contributed to these developments,” said the Ministry.
