Following Niger’s ongoing crisis, Air France has announced an extension of the suspension of its operations to Niger and its neighbouring countries of Mali and Burkina Faso up to August 31.
According to airspace-africa.com, this decision follows complex diplomatic issues when Mali and Burkina Faso demonstrated solidarity with Niger’s military coup regime. Due to France’s disapproval, Mali revoked AirFrance’s operating right and flight authorisation in its airspace. This development has exacerbated tension between France and Bamako.
Although the most recent announcement claims the suspension will end on August 31, the airline’s future operations will depend on the evolving diplomatic and security situation between France and the Francophone countries.
