Air travel round-up: Cathay increases Brisbane, Perth flights

Cathay Pacific will increase flights to Brisbane and Perth from October 26, offering twice-daily flights year-round.

The two new daily flights will depart Hong Kong at 23h50 and 12h10, arriving in Brisbane at 10h30+1 and 22h40 respectively. The return will depart Brisbane at 12h10 and 00h10, arriving in Hong Kong at 19h00 and 06h50.

The new service to Perth will depart Hong Kong at 23h10 and 15h10 and arrive at 06h55+1 and 22h50, respectively. The return will depart at 08h30 and 00h15 and arrive in Hong Kong at 16h25 and 07h55, respectively.

Emirates adds third daily Barcelona flight

Emirates will increase its operations to Barcelona with the addition of a third daily flight, starting from October 26. 

Emirates currently serves Spain with 28 weekly flights utilising a fleet mix of A380 and B777 aircraft, including 14 weekly flights to Madrid and 14 weekly flights to Barcelona.

Lufthansa pax granted ITA lounge access

The Lufthansa Group and ITA airways have further expanded their partnership, allowing Lufthansa Group frequent travellers to access ITA Airways lounges from July 1.

Status members from Lufthansa Group will be granted access to ITA Airways lounges in Milan, Rome and Catania.

All Lufthansa Group status passengers flying with ITA Airways can benefit from priority check-in, additional baggage allowance and waiting list priority.

United unveils Newark Polaris lounge renovations

United Airlines has unveiled newly renovated features in its Newark Polaris lounge, including an expanded dining room.

The dining room can now accommodate up to 60 travellers, with seating for solo travellers and larger groups. It is specifically for travellers ordering from the à la carte service and is separate from the buffet area in the main part of the lounge.

Other improvements include a second bar area and additional restrooms.

Ras Al Khaimah to open new airport terminal

Ras Al Khaimah International Airport in the UAE has launched significant expansion with a new 30 000sqm terminal, adding to the existing departure terminal of 4 933sqm and arrival terminal of 3 134sqm.

A key objective of the expansion is to increase the airport's capacity to meet rising demand, particularly as new resorts and hotels emerge in destinations like Al Marjan Island, reports Khaleej Times.

The terminal will integrate the latest technologies and innovative services to offer a world-class travel experience. It will also incorporate eco-friendly technologies such as energy-efficient LED lighting, geothermal heat pumps, and water recycling systems to support Ras Al Khaimah's sustainability goals.

Construction of the terminal is expected to be completed by 2028.
