Lufthansa will launch flights from Munich to Riyadh from October 26, a route it suspended in 2017.

US approves AZ, UA codeshare

The US Department of Transportation has approved a codeshare agreement between United Airlines and ITA Airways.

The approval will enable the two airlines to sell seats on each other’s flights.

According to Aviation Week, ITA will place its code on United-operated flights, including transatlantic routes and some onward US domestic connections. United will add its code to ITA-operated services between Italy and the US, as well as to intra-European flights operated by ITA.

AirAsia X to launch Turkey flights

AirAsia X will launch a new direct service between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul on November 14.

The flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Flight D7604 will depart Kuala Lumpur at 08h35 and arrive in Istanbul at 16h05. The return flight D7605 will depart Istanbul at 17h20 and arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 08h40, the following day.

Delta reduces New York flights

Delta Air Lines is cutting up to 20% of its New York capacity in its winter 2025/26 schedule.

According to Simple Flying, the airline will reduce its operations at New York’s JFK International and LaGuardia Airports by between 15% and 20%.

This reduction comes as a result of the Federal Aviation Administration’s extension of its New York slot utilisation waiver, which mandates that airlines use a minimum of 80% of their slots at the airports.

Simple Flying found that airlines are being impacted by the waiver because their post-COVID-19 operations have not yet matched their pre-COVID-19 slot allocations.

The airline has planned the capacity cuts for off-peak periods.

Ho Chi Minh to transfer international flights

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam plans to move international flights from Ho Chi Minh City’s current Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Long Thanh International Airport in 2026.

Currently under construction, Long Thanh International Airport is in neighbouring Dong Nai Province and will officially open on December 19. The transition of flights is expected in the first months of 2026.

The new airport aims to ease congestion at Tan Son Nhat which is Vietnam’s busiest airport.
