Hundreds of banks to offer passport services

Capitec Bank and FNB are the first banks to partner with Home Affairs to expand Smart ID and passport services.

In April, the Department announced plans to expand services to hundreds more bank branches in both urban and rural areas across South Africa as part of the Department’s new digital partnership model.

Previously, the delivery of Smart ID and passport services was only available at 30 branches across five different banks. The service relied on the duplication of Home Affairs staff and hardware inside bank branches, without taking advantage of technology to expand services.
