Emirates has opened a newly refurbished lounge at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Satellite 1 Terminal (SAT-1).
The US$5 million (R97m) renovation spans 1 454sqm and accommodates 250 guests, making it the largest international Emirates lounge outside its home base in Dubai.
First- and business-class passengers, along with Skywards members, can enjoy upscale furnishings, fine dining, shower spas, complimentary WiFi and various local and international dishes, including Thai desserts.
Located on the fourth floor of SAT-1, the lounge is a five-minute walk from the gates.
TAAG expands network with new aircraft
TAAG Angola Airlines has received its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the first of the airline’s planned acquisitions for widebody aircraft in 2025. The airline expects the delivery of three more B787s before 2029.
With capacity for 313 passengers – 16 business-class seats, and 297 economy and premium economy seats – the airline said the new Dreamliner would support the expansion of TAAG’s network to multiple long-haul destinations.
Frankfurt Airport introduces walk-through scanners
Frankfurt Airport has become what it says is the world’s first airport to “regularly employ walkthrough scanners for passenger security checks”.
Following a roughly one-year test phase at Concourse A in Terminal 1, the German Federal Police have authorised the full-scale use of the Rohde & Schwarz QPS Walk2000 air travel security system.
The QPS Walk2000 allows travellers to “simply walk through the scanner at a normal speed instead of having to freeze in an awkward posture for scanning,” Fraport said in a press release.
Fraport, the group responsible for the airport’s operations, added that it planned to extend the use of the technology to additional security check lanes in Terminal 1 and also deploy it in the new Terminal 3.
