Air travel round-up: Qatar launches South America routes

Qatar Airways is to expand its services into South America with the launch of flights to Bogotá, Colombia, and Caracas, Venezuela.

Two weekly flights, operated by a Boeing 777-200LR, will launch for the Northern hemisphere summer season this year.

The outbound flight will depart from Doha to Bogotá before continuing to Caracas. The return flight is direct from Caracas to Doha.

Flights will be on sale shortly. The new service will make Qatar Airways the first to offer non-stop flights from the Middle East to Colombia and the first Middle Eastern carrier operating in Venezuela, according to the airline.

ATL to welcome new Delta Sky Club

Delta Air Lines will welcome a new Delta Sky Club at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport during the North American spring.

The new 2 136sqm Club will open near Gate D16 as part of the Concourse D renovation. The Clubs on Concourses A and C will also receive upgrades.

Ethiopian introduces flights to Hyderabad

Ethiopian Airlines will introduce three weekly flights between Addis Ababa and Hyderabad, India, on June 16.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, flight ET682 will depart Addis Ababa at 16h10 and arrive in Hyderabad at 12h40 the next day. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays the return flight ET 683 will depart Hyderabad at 01h55 and arrive in Addis Ababa at 05h55.

The flights will be operated by Ethiopian’s B737, equipped with 144 economy-class and 16 business-class seats.

Turkish preps for Auckland and Minneapolis flights

Turkish Airlines is preparing to expand its global network with long-haul services to Auckland, New Zealand, and Minneapolis, USA.

Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, made the announcement during the Turkish Airlines Management Summit 2025, saying that the first Istanbul-Auckland flight would connect via Singapore. The carrier is also considering introducing direct flights to Auckland.

The Minneapolis flights are set to start in April or May.

BA and Finnair expand codeshare

Finnair has added its code to seven more British Airways routes from Heathrow, covering Aberdeen, Belfast City, Gibraltar, Inverness, Jersey, Manchester and Newcastle.

This expansion allows customers to book seamless connections from these destinations onto Finnair's network in Lapland, the Nordics, Baltics and Far East.

Finnair now operates up to six daily flights between Heathrow and Helsinki, along with double-daily flights from Manchester and up to seven weekly flights from Edinburgh.

Emirates introduces premium economy to Brisbane

Emirates will offer its premium economy product on flights between Dubai and Brisbane three times a week starting February 1.

With the introduction of premium economy on flights EK434/435, Brisbane will join Sydney and Melbourne in Emirates’ Australian network to be served by retrofitted aircraft equipped with the airline's premium economy product.
