Oman Air joins oneworld alliance

The oneworld alliance has welcomed Oman Air as its 15th member airline. Oneworld customers can now access an extended network of destinations across Oman Air’s global schedule.

As a full member airline, Oman Air will provide oneworld Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby loyalty customers with benefits including earning and redeeming miles, earning status points, priority check-in and boarding and lounge access.

Oman Air’s top-tier customers will gain access to oneworld priority benefits, including a network of nearly 700 premium airport lounges globally.

Lufthansa expands baggage collection service

Lufthansa has expanded its baggage collection and check-in service for its passengers travelling to Frankfurt Airport by train from the Cologne and Siegburg/Bonn areas. Travellers with Discover Airlines can also enjoy this service in the Frankfurt and Cologne areas.

The service offers passengers the opportunity to have their suitcases and luggage collected from their home or hotel. The luggage is brought securely to the airport and checked in there.

Travellers receive real-time updates via a personalised tracking link and a digital baggage tag receipt. Passengers can go straight to the security checkpoint and only collect their baggage at their destination.

The service can be booked up to 36 hours before departure.

The service has been available to customers from the greater Frankfurt, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt and Bensheim areas since February.

United upgrades mobile app features

United Airlines has introduced new features to its mobile app to simplify connections between flights, particularly at its US hubs.

The app now provides personalised, turn-by-turn directions to connecting gates with estimated walking times, real-time status updates and alerts if United holds a flight for delayed passengers.

The app also assists with longer layovers by suggesting lounge locations and other tips, and provides automatic rebooking options if connections are missed.

United is also working on future updates for the app, such as expanded language support, enhanced navigation through location tracking and more personalised text alerts.

Dublin Airport expands private terminal

Platinum VIP, Dublin Airport's private terminal service, has expanded its capacity with the addition of four new suites, bringing the total to 10.

The terminal can now accommodate an additional 26 000 passengers a year.

The facility offers an alternative to the main terminals with private parking, security screening and direct chauffeur transfers to and from aircraft.

The expansion includes the Sean Lemass Room, a high-spec boardroom equipped for video conferencing for business passengers requiring a meeting space while in transit.
