Air travel round-up: EY plans Mallorca flights

Next year, Etihad will launch seasonal flights to Palma de Mallorca from June 12 until mid-September, 2026.

The airline will operate three weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and Palma de Mallorca. Flights will depart Abu Dhabi on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 02h55 and arrive in Mallorca at 08h15.

Return flights will depart Mallorca on the same days at 10h30 and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 19h00.

TC launches flights to Lagos

Air Tanzania has launched three weekly direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Lagos, to boost connectivity, trade, and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Tanzania.

Flights depart Dar es Salaam on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 20h30 and arrive in Lagos at 23h59. Return flights depart Lagos on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 01h30 and arrive in Dar es Salaam at 09h00.

VA opens bidding for neighbour-free seats

Economy passengers on selected Virgin Australia-operated flights can now bid to keep the seat next to them open.

The ‘Neighbour-Free Seating’ option will be available on some domestic and short-haul international services.

After booking flights, economy passengers can submit a bid on the Virgin Australia app to reserve an empty seat next to them, which will be confirmed around two hours before the scheduled departure time. Bids start from AUD30 (R342).

TK plans Romania, Armenia flights

Turkish Airlines will launch scheduled flights to Timisoara in Romania and Yerevan in Armenia, according to a notice by the airline.

The airline said scheduled flights would commence subject to availability and market conditions.

Iceland budget carrier ceases operations

Iceland budget airline Play has ceased operations and cancelled all future flights after it went into administration following financial issues.

The airline was founded in 2019 and operated flights between Keflavik International Airport and a number of destinations in Europe and the US.
